Research Balloon Mission

Home     Research Balloon Mission

2016 sees our second research balloon or RB-2 launch with 60 experiments to be integrated into NASA's balloon program office Test Flight high mission. This zero-pressure, scientific research balloon will be launched from the NASA Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility at Fort Sumner, NM and will travel to approximately 100,000 feet (~30 km) into the stratosphere. Large unmanned helium balloons provide scientists and aerospace programs inexpensive means to place payloads into a space environment.

The research balloon mission is open to middle or high school students, ages 11-18, around the world.
